Poetry captures emotions of a time lived. Whether it be through observation, shared experience, heartache or the deepest loveā€” poetry can move you to feel in ways that wonā€™t allow you escape from your soulā€™s truth. Paper and pen have always been my safe haven. I have piles of notebooks and journals. Tools used to let my heart speak, no matter whatā€™s going on outside. I write a lot about growth, change, love in all of its forms and womenā€™s empowerment. I write the stories that many have lived. I seek to learn. I explore womanhood. I hold space for you. I try to give voice to those who feel voiceless and power to those who feel powerless. I have evolved over the years and understand the responsibility that comes with this form of expression. The poems that Iā€™m sharing reflect awakening. And in this glorious Spring, whatā€™s more beautiful than seeing a sweet bud as it begins to bloom fully? April is National Poetry Month. Today, I celebrate that.
